IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF APOSTLE PAUL

1st DAY : MAKEDONIA AIRPORT / THESSALONIKI

 Arrival to Makedonia Airport. A ALLER representative will meet you after passport control and accompany you to your transfer to your hotel.

2nd DAY: AMPHIPOLIS / KAVALA / PHILIPPI / THESSALONIKI

 After breakfast we will visit the ruins of the ancient city of Amphipolis,as well as the renowned Lion, an imposing stone tomb dating back to the 4th century B.C. Visit to Philippi, where St. Paul founded the first church in Europe. Here is also the baptistery of Agia Lydia. She was the first to be baptized by Paul, and she helped greatly in spreading the word of God. We will see the ancient forum and jail where Paul and Silas were imprisoned. A guided city walk in the port town Kavala, where apostle Paul landed in Europe when he sailed from Troas. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

3rd DAY : THESSALONIKI / THESSALONIKI

 Enjoy today the city of Thessaloniki. Explore the city and see the old city walls,the Vlatadon Monastery, the White Tower, the Byzantine Acropolis and the Basilica of St. Dimitris. When Paul arrived in Thessaloniki, he came across a city like no other, large, multiracial, seat of the governor of the Macedonian province, a city that enjoyed special privileges given by the Romans. He conducted his teachings at the Jews’ synagogue, most probable known as “Ets Ahaim” (Tree of Life), located near the city port, for three Saturdays, interpreting parts of the Holy Bible, about the Crucifixion of Christ and His Resurrection.  According to the local tradition, Paul taught Thessalonians at the south chapel of the Vlatadon Monastery.

The Apostle Paul  characterized the Thessalonians ‘exemplar’ for all Christians of Greece.

After the city tour we will visit the winery | ktima Gerovassiliou. The tour is led by a wine-guide and comprises the vineyard, the wine-production, bottling, ageing areas, the Wine Museum and wine tasting. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

4th DAY: VERIA / KALAMPAKA

 After breakfast we will stop in Veria, ancient Berea, on the terraced foot of Mount Vernon to see the monument where it is said that Paul stood and preached, the so called ” Apostle Paul’s Podium ” is now an imposing monument. We will also visit of Vergina. Today’s Vergina (Ancient Aigai), in the foothills of Mt Pieria, was the first capital of ancient kingdom of Macedonia, called Aigai. It is protected by UNESCO as world cultural heritage and comprises a unique discovery of an enormous universal impact. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

5th DAY: METEORA / DELPHI

 Experience spiritual elevation on Meteora (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the towering stone pillars on which 24 byzantine monasteries lie.Enjoy here the breath-taking views. See the technique and art of icons at an icon workshop. We will visit two Monasteries:

The Holy Monastery of Varlaam is the second, after the Great Meteoro, big in size monastery. The church, honoured to the three Bishops. It was built in 1541/42 and decorated in 1548. The old refectory is used as a museum while North of the Church we can see the parekklesion of the Three (Bishops) built in 1627 and decorated in 1637.

The Holy Monastery of St. Stephen. It is one of the most attainable as we don’t have to cope with innumerable stairs to reach it. The small single-nave church of St. Stephen was built in the middle of 16th and decorated in 1545 or a little later. The ‘Katholikon’, honoured to St. Charalambos, was built in the Athonite type, in 1798. The old refectory of the convent is used as a museum nowadays. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

6th DAY: DELPHI / OSIAS LOUKAS / TOLO

 In the morning visit of Delphi the “omphalos” (navel) of the earth in the ancient world. Visit the site and see the temple of Apollo, the treasury of the Athenians and the Archaeological Museum exhibiting masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture and the bronze Charioteer. Delphi is known for the ancient oracle that was a reference center of the ancient classical world (UNESCO World Heritage Sites). The historic monastery of Saint Luke is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine Architecture (UNESCO World Heritage Sites). Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

7^th DAY: EPIDAURUS / NAFPLIO / TOLO

 After breakfast, you will be picked up for your tour in Epidaurus start with the Sanctuary of Asclepius .The ancient theatre of Epidaurus (UNESCO World Heritage Sites) represents the finest and best-preserved example of a classical Greek theatre. The theatre is marveled for its exceptional acoustics.

Next stop is Nafplio.

A guided walking tour  in the most beautiful town in the area of Argolis as well as one of the most romantic cities all over Greece, Nafplio was the first capital of the newly born Greek state between 1823 and 1834. The town’s history traces back to the prehistoric era when soldiers from here participated in the Argonautic expedition and the Trojan War alike. Enjoy today the city of  Nafplio, the ancient walls, the medieval castles, the monuments and the statues, Ottoman fountains and Venetian or the neoclassical buildings mesmerize the visitor with their unique architecture and beauty.

8th DAY: MYCENEA / CORINTH / ATHENS

 Visit of Mycenae, the archeological site of Mycenae is fairly considered to be one of the most significant historical monuments of Greek civilization, approved so by the great number of visitors coming from even the most remote parts of the world. Departure for the excavations of Corinth, the place where Apostle Paul lived for two years and from where he sent his first and second letters to the Corinthians. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

9th DAY : ATHENS /ATHENS

 Visit the legendary Acropolis to see the spectacular Parthenon and the temple of Athena. See also the Areopagus or Mars Hill where Apostle Paul spoke to the Athenians. Enjoy a guided tour in the Byzantine museum with unique relics of the Greek Orthodox church. A sight-seeing tour by coach goes along Constitution Square, the House of Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Temple of Zeus and the Old Olympic Stadium. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

10th DAY: DEPARTYRE / ATHENS AIRPORT

 You will have breakfast at your hotel, and then transferred to the airport for your return flight. If your flight is in the afternoon or evening, then you can take an Optional city tour of Athens in the morning.
